Ladies of The Canyon:
Joni Mitchell, Linda Ronstadt, Cass Elliot and Judy Collins, and the Laurel Canyon Music Scene of the 60s & 70s
Moderated by Edward Barnes
The Laurel Canyon music scene of the 1960s and 70s was a fertile melting pot of folk, rock and jazz artists who lived, worked and played together in the hills above L.A.’s Sunset Boulevard. At its center was Joni Mitchell, a poetic musical genius whose deeply personal and introspective songs of love, disillusionment and joy helped define an era and influence generations. Joni and friends Linda Ronstadt, Cass Elliott and Judy Collins were known as the “ladies of the canyon,” and their voices would soon travel from the backyards of their California bungalows to Woodstock to Carnegie Hall to the White House. This seminar will follow the journeys of these legendary ladies, the evolution of their craft and sound, and the impact their artistry has had, and continues to have, on the American cultural landscape.
Audio/video will be used.
